PRESS RELEASE: Yonkers Police Arrest Joseph Abraham, Sr., In Domestic Homicide/Attempted Suicide Investigation

YONKERS, NY — May 22, 2017 — On Sunday, May 21st, 2017, at approximately 9:12am, members of the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to an apartment at 59 Van Cortlandt Park Avenue on a report of an attempted suicide with possibly multiple victims at the scene.

Upon arrival officers located a deceased female victim in her bedroom, and a surviving male subject in the hallway with severe lacerations to his wrists.

Empress Ambulance personnel transported the male, a 54-year-old resident of Yonkers, to a local area hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Officers cordoned off the area and established a crime scene.
Detectives from the Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the location and are actively investigating this incident, interviewing witnesses, canvassing surveillance video, processing forensic evidence, and executing search warrants. Investigation has yielded reasonable cause to believe that the male subject, identified as Joseph Abraham Sr., allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times about her body and torso causing her death, subsequent to a domestic dispute; Abraham, Sr., then attempted to take his own life by cutting his wrists while in the bathroom of the apartment. The female victim (wife) is identified as Amanda Trenck, a 25- year-old resident of Yonkers. Both Abraham Sr., and Trenck were discovered by family members residing in the same apartment who called 911 and are cooperating with authorities. Several knives were recovered from the scene.
The body of Trenck was removed by the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination. Abraham Sr. is currently under arrest and in police custody at the local area hospital; criminal charges against Abraham Sr. in the death of his wife are pending. No booking photo is available at this time. This release will be updated with additional information when available.
