Dan Murphy: It’s crunch time in the political season, with candidates knocking on doors, handing out flyers, putting up signs, and raising money in the final 30 days of the campaign for City Council, council president, county legislator and county executive.
If you are a registered voter who votes frequently, you are considered a “prime voter” and will likely get a knock on your door from a candidate for City Council if you live in the fourth or sixth districts.
These two council seats, and the council president’s seat, are the three big local races that we focus on to see what minor party lines each candidate secured and what endorsements they have won, and try to point you to any debates upcoming or that you can watch online.
Sixth District City Council: For the last three months we focused on the Republican and Conservative candidates for City Council in the Sixth District. Anthony Merante won the Republican primary over #TonyPagano, but #TonyPagano won the Conservative and Independence Party primaries,
so both will be on the ballot in November.
Flying under the radar so far has been Democratic council candidate Matthew Orefice, until now. Matthew Orefice has been “working the district,” knocking on doors and meetings voters.
Recently, he, proposed to form an advisory council for the
sixth district to better inform residents.
Matthew Orefice recognizes that,
“Not everyone is comfortable reaching out to elected officials or have the time and opportunity to do so. However, the advisory council will further afford residents opportunities to share their concerns and also hear the work that will be taking place in City Hall. I plan to invite representatives from all party affiliations, various associations, clubs, and interested residents to meet regularly with me to have open and bi-directional discussions about the Sixth District and Yonkers,” Matthew Orefice said......
