PRESS RELEASE: Mayor Mike Spano Hosts Annual Senior Health Fair



YONKERS, NY – October 10, 2017 -- Mayor Mike Spano today announced the Yonkers Office for the Aging will host its Annual Senior Health Fair on October 16th from 10AM to 2PM at Coyne Park Senior Center, at 777 McLean Avenue.  The event connects seniors with various healthcare agencies as well as free services such as hearing tests, eye exams, heart rate, blood pressure, and cancer screening information.  
“The Annual Senior Health Fair is a special day in Yonkers as senior citizens are afforded the opportunity to receive a number of free services that benefit their health and well-being,” said Mayor Mike Spano.  “We are grateful to have experts from a variety of health care, government and non-profits agencies as our partners.  Each year our health fair provides over 100 seniors with the much-needed resources to ensure they remain healthy and active.”
Participating partners expected to attend include LeMac, WestMed, New York State Comptroller’s Office, St. John’s Riverside Hospital, New York Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital, St. Joseph’s Medical Center, City, County & State Departments and many local non-profit organizations.
“This annual event is an enormous resource for anyone, including our senior population and their caregivers. The amount of information offered on many topics such as health care, aging services,  financial support, housing, transportation is invaluable” said Kelly Chiarella, Director for the Office of the Aging. “Flu shots and health screenings for blood pressure, cancer, hearing exams, heart monitoring is only part of what this community event has to offer at the Fair. All are welcomed to attend”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United States’ leading cause of death among persons aged 65 and over is due to heart disease, cancer and chronic lower respiratory disease.

Yonkers Office for the Aging provides services to Yonkers residents 60 years of age and over. There is no fee for any Office for the Aging service. Voluntary contributions are suggested for meals and transportation. Programs are funded by the City of Yonkers and federal and state grants through NYS and Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services.
