JOURNAL NEWS: Yonkers approves pro-life group home for pregnant women

A group opposed to abortion has received permission from #Yonkers to open a group home for pregnant women on St. Joseph's Avenue.

The Yonkers City Council voted Tuesday to approve a special use and site plan for the former #StJosephsConvent at 12 St. Joseph's Ave.

A Roman Catholic charity called Good Counsel of Hoboken, New Jersey, wants to convert the convent into a transitional residence for women who need support during their pregnancies.

Under the conditions approved by the City Council, the 16-bed residence cannot shelter more than 24 people.

"There would be some clients who might come to the residence with a younger child," Yonkers' planning director #LeeEllman told the City Council's Real Estate Committee on Dec. 5.

"So rather than have something that became too overcrowded, the (Yonkers Planning Board) felt it was equitable to say that 16 bedrooms, 16 residents, whatever infant child might be born there through the residents, and then no more than eight additional children that would reside at the facility."......
