JOURNAL NEWS VIDEO: Yonkers rejects N. Broadway apartments, approves Walnut Street ...


YONKERS - An expansion for senior housing on Walnut Street will proceed, while a residential tower downtown will have to go back to the drawing board.

On May 16, zoning officials decided or postponed a number requests for variances on development projects throughout the city. The variance requests included:

• Joint Properties's request for a height variance for a 10-story residential tower at 73 N. Broadway and 3-5 Wells Ave. The zoning board denied the request.

The proposed 108-unit structure with retail on the street level would have been 120 feet tall; current zoning on that block only permits up to 66 feet. The proposed building would have replaced a vacant corner lot and two vacant four-story buildings at the location.....
