1200 Warburton Avenue Fire Requires Some with Medical Attention



YONKERS, NY — January 19, 2017 — 11:23pm - The Yonkers Fire Department was dispatched to 1200 Warburton Avenue. Neighbors had noticed smoke from their respective apartment. It was that call that spurred the first arriving Engine Co. 308 to shortly arrive thereafter. Upon arrival, Engine 308 defined circumstances as a structure fire and began immediate suppression and rescue efforts.
Battalion 1 was next to arrive confirming the structure fire. Battalion 1 was next to arrive. Assistant Fire Chief Eric Dronzek would serve as the incident commander.
Engine 308 found a female victim in the hallway; removed her to the courtyard of the building so as to safely administer medical attention to her benefit.

Additional companies found a male victim in the bedroom of an apartment and likewise removed from the suffocating smoke to the safety the courtyard.
Both victims were tended to by YFD and Empress Ambulance, thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for additional medical attention. Their status in not yet known.
The fire was brought under control and did not spread to adjacent apartments.
Yonkers Fire investigators have determined the cause was an electrical overload and combustible material in proximity to the outlet and the efficacy of some of the extension cords in question.
