WalletHub ranks Yonkers safest city in New York

The personal finance website WalletHub.com released a report yesterday where their analysts compared more than 180 cities across 35 key indicators of safety; data sets range from assaults per capita to unemployment rate to road quality. Their findings indicate that theCity of Yonkers ranks as the safest city in the State of New York as compared to Buffalo, Rochester, and New York City. Their results include:

·         Yonkers ranked 1st safest city in the State of New York
·         Yonkers ranked 8th safest city in the nation in the category ‘Home & Community Safety’
·         Yonkers ranked 15th overall safest city in the nation

These findings support the Department’s own analysis of FBI statistics, where the City of Yonkers has consistently ranked the 2nd safest city in the nation when compared to cities of similar sized populations.

Mayor Mike Spano stated, “Yonkers’ ranking on Wallethub’s list is the net result of the hard work and commitment of all our dedicated police officers who promote positive community outreach and engagement programs.”

Police Commissioner Charles Gardner stated, “These findings by WalletHub.com supports what the residents of Yonkers have known for a long time now, that the men and women of the Yonkers Police Department are working hard to keep our communities safe and make Yonkers a great place to work, live, and raise a family; the credit for these excellent numbers goes to the members of our Police force, the City administration that supports our efforts, and the residents we serve and work together with every day.”
