JOURNAL NEWS: Yonkers students 'warm up' to climate change education out of the classroom

YONKERS - Hundreds of the city's high school students will be getting out of the classroom for science-class field trips, thanks to a federal grant 

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) awarded local nonprofit Groundwork Hudson Valley $500,000 to oversee a four-year science program with Yonkers Public Schools.

More than 600 Yonkers students are expected to participate in the program, which is one of six in the country funded by NOAA.

The money will cover the cost of transportation, new visual exhibits, and the work to design and implement the curriculum, which is focused on global, coastal and local effects of climate change, flooding and severe weather....
