VIDEO: The George Ondek Show Presents The Entire Yonkers 2017 Columbus Day Parade With Commentary

#GeorgeOndek is a little slow in getting things started, but jump to the one minute mark for a history lesson and the whole parade

There Was A Big Shout Out To "Yonkers' Finest" For Quickly Apprehending The Man That Vandalized Columbus Columbus Bust In The Park Hill Nieghborhood.

Unfortunately there were a Couple of desperately foolish mamaluke's belonging to the #MikeKhader campaign that kept getting in the way of the camera's waving some stupid signs.

Scores of politicians were at the parade, but only a tacky and clueless #MikeKhader was the only one who thought the parade was about him.

INVESTIGATIVE REPORT: Mayor Mike Spano Spano, wants Yonkers taxpayers to gain a portion of the money, as is done in Rochester.

JOURNAL NEWS - Tax Watch: Millions in '2%' tax money showered on fire departments
By David McKay Wilson

The last time Hope Engine Co. 1 in White Plains was called for help was in 2013, after a fire broke out at the YMCA and an emergency shelter was set up for a few days, recalls company Treasurer Robert Amadio.

Nevertheless, the volunteer company, one of the six in White Plains that have no role in fighting fires in the city, has since received $165,000 in state tax money from the little known 2 percent levy on home insurance premiums written by out-of-state companies.

Enacted more than a century ago to provide aid to volunteer and paid firefighters prior to disability and worker's compensation laws, that money today brings in $60 million a year....

.....Parties, dinners and mortgages

What goes on in White Plains is repeated, in varying degrees, at many volunteer and paid departments throughout the state, with fire agencies given broad latitude on how the tax can be used......

....The biggest chunk — $16.1 million — went to New York City, which is the only department where all of the 2 percent money go directly to city coffers. That’s up 28 percent since 2014, based on increased premiums, said Ron Klug, a spokesman for the state Department of Financial Services.....

....The Yonkers case

DiNapoli’s audit of Yonkers, begun in 2015, discovered that the Mutual Aid Association of the Paid Department of the City of Yonkers for years has spent millions of tax dollars in violation of state law.

The association, run by Yonkers Local 628 of the International Association of Fire Fighters, suspended most activity in July 2016, after DiNapoli pointed out that the state law establishing the association in the early 1900s restricted spending to the care of indigent and disabled firefighters.

The association has not spent its 2 percent money for the care of indigent and disabled firefighters.

Instead, the association in 2015 spent $559,000 on perks for Yonkers firefighters, such as gym memberships, co-payments for medical care, dinner-dances and a softball tournament. The union collected $83,000 to administer the association’s 2 percent money.

In the 2017 state Legislature’s final days, the union won passage of a bill that would allow it to spend the 2 percent money.....

.....“The money needs to be put used to enhance fire services,” Mike Spano said.

“The law was put into effect at a time when firefighters didn’t get unlimited sick time or disability retirement benefits. We need to come up with something that’s better for taxpayers.”....

NATIONAL WHOLESALE LIQUIDATORS: "Cross County Center was doing the rooftop work was being done without a permit."

WESTFAIR: National Wholesale Liquidators sues landlord over Yonkers roof collapse

A discount store at the Mall at Cross County in Yonkers is suing the landlord for $5 million for allegedly refusing to repair a roof that collapsed.

The rooftop parking deck collapsed on Jan. 11 as a contractor was using a heavy Bobcat machine on an area restricted to 4,500 pounds. The Bobcat fell about 30 feet into the store, injuring five people.

NSC Wholesale Holdings of West Hempstead, owner of the National Wholesale Liquidators store, last month sued AAC Cross County Mall in Westchester Supreme Court. The lawsuit also names the parent company, Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp. and founder Ben Ashkenazy.....

....The lease requires the landlord to repair damaged property within a year, NSC says, but AAC has taken no meaningful steps to start work.

NSC Wholesale Holdings stated in the suit that AAC could realize more profit by not honoring the lease.

“Refusal to honor their leasehold obligations is part of a nefarious campaign to harass NSC,” the lawsuit states, “so as to drive it out of the property.”

NSC Wholesale Holdings accuses the landlord of breach of lease, constructive eviction, breach of contract, fraud and negligence.

It is demanding that AAC restore the building so that it can reopen the business. It is asking for at least $5 million to compensate for lost revenue, profits and inventory.

PRESS RELEASE: Liam McLaughlin Nabs Every Law Enforcement Endorsement

YONKERS, NY – Nearly every law enforcement union in New York State has endorsed Yonkers City Council President Liam McLaughlin for re-election.

The Affiliated Police Associations of Westchester (APA) which represents fifty-two PBAs on the local, county and state level, on Thursday announced it’s endorsement of McLaughlin along with the Police Conference of New York, the New York State Association of PBAs, and the Detective’s Endowment Association.

Yonkers City Council President Liam McLaughlin said, “As the law and order candidate in this race, our campaign is built upon standing up for the men and women of law enforcement and giving them the resources they need to provide safer streets. Blue lives matter, and I will take a stand, not a knee, when it comes to supporting them.”
Keith Olson, President of the Affiliated Police Associations of Westchester said, “We’re here today to announce our unanimous endorsement of Liam McLaughlin. The APA is proudly endorsing Liam McLaughlin and it’s the easiest decision we’ve made in this political season. Make no mistake about it, Liam McLaughlin is the law and order candidate in the race for Yonkers City Council President. He is the guy.”
Owing to the diversity and depth of its membership, the APA is among the most respected organizations in the State on law enforcement issues. The APA includes unions from every municipality in Westchester as well as New York City, State, County and local PBAs.
McLaughlin also received the nod from the Detective’s Endowment Association, the Police Conference of New York, and the New York State Association of Police Benevolent Associations.
The Detectives’ Endowment Association, Inc., represents 17,000 active and retired New York City Police Department Detectives. In a signed letter to the Council President, Michael J. Palladino, president of the Detectives Endowment Association, said “Our endorsement is based on Liam’s support for law enforcement and his concern for the working men and women of New York State. We look forward to working with him on issues that affect the police and labor communities and the public safety of the residents of New York.”
The Police Conference of New York, Inc., founded in 1925, is recognized by key state elected officials and department heads as the preeminent professional police union in New York State and represents 230 local unions, 8 regional conferences and one retired association totaling more than 25,000 members. The endorsement includes the New York State Troopers PBA, among others.
The New York State Association of Police Benevolent Associations is comprised of unions and member groups representing over 45,000 law enforcement officers across New York State. In addition to the NYPD Lieutenants Benevolent Association and Captains Endowment Association, the organization includes PBAs with MTA, Port Authority and departments throughout the state.
