YONKERS HISTORY: December 8th

Dec. 8, 1906: After meeting with the Board of Education, Yonkers Common Council vetoed the proposal of building a school on Mulberry Street. Several aldermen said that since the building would be built in a hollow on swampland, children would be in danger of contracting malaria.

Dec. 8, 1907: The Yonkers Aldermen’s Committee of the Whole approved the sale of the Manor Hall and its grounds for $50,000, vesting title to the State of New York. The state agreed to appropriate funds for the maintenance of the building.
