Dec. 8, 1906: After meeting with the Board
of Education, Yonkers Common Council vetoed
the proposal of building a school on Mulberry
Street. Several aldermen said that since the building would be built in a hollow on swampland, children
would be in danger of contracting malaria.
Dec. 8, 1907: The Yonkers Aldermen’s Committee
of the Whole approved the sale of the Manor
Hall and its grounds for $50,000, vesting title to
the State of New York. The state agreed to appropriate
funds for the maintenance of the building.
