TODAY IN YONKERS HISTORY: December 10th

Dec. 10, 1905: Several banks reported that counterfeit $5 silver certificates were flooding the city. The tip off? The word “treasury” was spelled “treasurey” on the bogus notes.

Dec. 10, 1924: Workmen excavating on McLean Avenue near Harding Avenue unearthed two skulls believed to be those of Native Americans. Historians at the time believed the skulls belonged to members of Chief Nimham’s tribe, who assisted the American forces against the British.
