Today In Yonkers History - Dec. 6

Dec. 6, 1902: John Kendrick Bangs was appointed editor of the Metropolitan Magazine and the Daily Telegraph; Harper Brothers had purchased both publications.

Dec. 6, 1905: Mayor John Coyne was inaugurated. He verbally attacked the Yonkers Railroad Company because of its insufficient and antiquated transit system in his inaugural address, pointing out the need for more lines up Nodine hill, from Elm Street to Park Hill and down to McLean Avenue; another up the Nepperhan River Valley to Nepera Park and Uniontown; and an third line on Bronx River Road from Yonkers Avenue to Bronxville.

Dec. 6, 1907: Aldermen considered a proposal by the American Scenic and Preservation Society to purchase Philipse Manor Hall for $50,000.
