White Plains Community Leaders Endorse Kat Brezler for State Senate
White Plains, NY -- Two members of the White Plains Democratic City Committee, Saad Siddiqui and Michael Kraver, and White Plains District Leader Ruthmarie Hicks have endorsed Kat Brezler who is seeking to replace George Latimer in his newly vacated State Senate seat in the 37th district.
"I have seen what Kat Brezler can bring to the table and I support her candidacy for the vacant state senate seat. I know she will be an effective leader who will push an agenda that will benefit working families. I encourage everyone to get behind this devoted and passionate candidate,” said Democratic Committee member Saad Siddiqui.
“I’m proud to extend my endorsement to Kat Brezler for State Senate in the 37th District,” said Democratic Committee member Michael Kraver.
“Throughout everything she has done, from teaching to fighting against fracking, she has put her whole heart and energy into the causes she cares about. I can only expect she will do the same in the Senate, and it is that dedication and resolution that we need if we want to see change for our community. I’m excited to see what she will do in Albany.”
“It is my pleasure to endorse an activist like Kat Brezler for State Senate. It is important that we elect people like Kat who fight for workers and students. The party needs new blood that is not afraid to be front and center and in the streets on the issues that are important to us all. I have seen the dedication that Kat brings to every fight she takes on. In the Senate, we can count on her to go beyond lip-service and push for real change,” said District Leader Ruthmarie Garcia Hicks.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to these three community leaders and friends who have consistently been a strong voice for our diverse neighborhoods. Their endorsements not only show their belief in me to be the advocate the White Plains community needs, but is also a testament to the work I have been able to accomplish as an activist and teacher. We’re building a movement with our bold ideas and no nonsense approach, and I am thankful they see in me the positive change I will bring to the 37th district. I feel confident that I will deliver tangible results to our district, and I hope to continue working with them in the future,” saidKatherine Brezler, candidate for State Senate.
These endorsements join the Organization of Staff Analysts (OSA) and leaders in New Rochelle in endorsing Kat Brezler on her Senate campaign, including Council Member Jared Rice and District Leaders Jason Mandella, #JamieCass, Suzanne Queener Arena and Thomas Dargan.
Due to the successful election of George Latimer to Westchester County Executive, his seat will be vacated in January when he assumes office. Governor Andrew Cuomo has an option to call a special election to fill this and other legislative vacancies.
If the Governor calls a special election, the Westchester Democratic County Committee will meet to pick the Democratic nominee to run for the 37th State Senate District. County Committee is made up of two District Leaders per election district.. Katherine Brezler is currently meeting with many local City, Town and Village councils to win their support of her candidacy.
