PRESS RELEASE: Shelley Mayer Earns Support and Endorsement of Transport Workers Union Local 100 in Bid To Take George Latimer's Soon To Be Vacant Seat

EARLY SUPPORT: This is the first endorsement for the Democratic candidate in the race for #Yonkers 37th District State Senate seat

YONKERS, NY — December 7, 2017 — NYS Assemblymember Shelley Mayer (D-90), Democratic candidate for the New York State Senate’s 37th District, received the endorsement of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 100, just one week after she announced her candidacy for the seat.

“Working people have a champion in Shelley Mayer. She’s been with our school bus drivers and monitors 100% in their fight for earned sick time in Westchester. She’s a staunch supporter of grievance rights. She also stood by us in our contract fight at First Mile Square. She has the wholehearted support of Transport Workers Union Local 100,” said TWU Local 100 President #TonyUtano.

“I am honored to once again have the support of TWU Local 100. Their hardworking men and women do so much to serve our community, and they are vital to the success of Westchester County. As the next State Senator, I pledge to continue fighting for them and ensure they receive the respect and dignity they deserve,” said Assemblymember Shelley Mayer.

TWU was founded in New York in 1934 and its New York chapter, Local 100, is the largest in the country. Local 100 represents public transit workers, including many of the men and women that drive and maintain buses for MaBSTOA, NYC Transit Surface Division, and MTA Bus.

It also represents some private transportation employees, specifically for Liberty Lines, Waterways, and First Transit.

Assemblymember Shelley Mayer has been a strong advocate for workers’ rights throughout her career. In the state Assembly, she called for guaranteeing sick leave for workers and securing additional funding for public transportation.

She has worked closely with Local 100 to expand bus service in Westchester County.
