DAILY NEWS: What a birdbrain.
A former Yonkers mayoral aide pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing thousands of donated dollars that were supposed to pay for Thanksgiving dinners for the needy.
Lorraine Lopez ran the city’s 2011 Turkey Drive, which got about $5,600 in donations from a construction company called Yonkers Contracting Corporation Inc.
But when the company checked to see how the drive was going, city officials discovered Lopez — who had just retired from her post as special assistant to then-Mayor Philip Amicone — had cashed the checks.
They also found no record that Lopez spent any of the dough on turkey and trimmings for the poor.
Lopez, 45, has paid back the money, according to the Westchester County district attorney’s office. She is expected to be sentenced to five years’ probation and may be required to perform some community service as well.
